At one point in American Gods, Shadow enjoys a bowl of spaghetti, crusty garlic bread and spicy meatballs in a thick red sauce. Today, we’re sharing a recipe for that spaghetti; enjoy it as you re-read the American classic.

For the sauce
  1. Heat the oil and sauté the onion and thyme together for 2 minutes.
  2. Stir in the stock, chili, tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes.
  3. Add the tomes puree and salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Allow to boil and then simmer or seven minutes.
For the meatballs
  1. Mix the onion, garlic, pork and beef together.
  2. Soak the breadcrumbs in the milk and fold into the meat.
  3. Add the oregano, salt and pepper to taste and stir in the egg.
  4. Shape the meat into small balls and sauté in hot oil for 7 minutes until browned.
  5. Pour in the tomato sauce and simmer for 7 minutes.
  6. Pour over the spaghetti and top with the parmesan.
