Ingredients
For paste
Coconut – grated and cubed
Cashews – a handful
Poppy seeds 1 teaspoon

Aval – 1/4 cup
Poha
Full Cream Milk – 2 cups
Sugar – 1/2 cup
Cardamom – generous pinch
Cashews – a handful
Ghee – 2 teaspoon
Instructions
Method
Put the coconut, cashews and poppy seeds into the mixer and grind to a paste
In a pan, heat 1 teaspoon of ghee and add the cashew till golden and set aside
Rinse the poha and in the same pan, roast the poha till the colour changes, keep aside.
Boil milk and then simmer till it reduces in volume to at least 1/2 cups.
Add sugar and mix well, then add the cardamom for flavour.
Add the paste to the milk and mix really well till the raw smell leaves
Now add in the roasted poha and give it a quick stir, then let it simmer for a bit.
Once the poha is soft and mixed well with the milk, turn the stove off.
Serve the payasam and garnish with the roasted cashews.
