Place the dals in a bowl of water and soak overnight. Alternately, you can soak the dal in hot boiling water for 2 hours.
Pluck the florets from the bunch.
First, saute the broccoli separately in a pan.
Place a pan on high heat and add some oil
Now, add mustard seeds.
When the mustard seeds starts to sputter, add split urid dal and fry them till they turn golden brown color.
Add brocolli florets and stir well.
Add salt and turmeric and saute the florets in oil in medium-high flame for 5 minutes.
Take out the cooked and seasoned broccoli from flame to a plate.
Proceed to prepare crumbled dal (Usili).
Wash the dal and grind it in mixer once along with red chilli, hing and salt without adding water
The ground mixture should be coarse.
Heat the oil in the pan, and add the ground paste and keep the flame in low
Allow the ground paste to cook in oil and it will crumble down into smaller pieces. Finally add the cooked broccoli and mix well with the crumbled dals.
