Instructions
Peel, chop and rinse the senai well.
Soak tamarind in a cup of hot water for 15 minutes. Extract its juice and discard the pulp.
Pressure cook tur dal and senai separately for 3 whistles.
Mash tur dal well.
Mash senai also.
Heat oil in a wok, add mustard seeds, when it splutters, add asafetida, green chilies, ginger and curry leaves.
Sauté for 2-3 seconds, then add cooked tur dal and mashed senai.
Add tamarind water, salt and cook on medium flame stirring in between for 5-6 minutes or until it thickens slightly.
Remove from heat.
Serve as a side dish for rasam or sambar or curd rice.
