  1. Cook the dal with salt and turmeric in it.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, salt and turmeric and cook for one or two whistles.
To make the dhaba tadka mix
  1. In a tawa dry roast the cumin, coriander seeds, saunf, cloves and cinnamon
  2. Once roasted add the chilli, javitri powder, turmeric powder and sautee. Add salt.
  3. In a mixie or blender, make a fine powder of these spices.
For the dal
  1. In a large pan add a tablespoon of white butter.
  2. Add jeera, ginger and garlic and sautee.
  3. Now add the onions and sautee until the onions become translucent.
  4. Add the already prepared dal, sal, green chillies and cut tomatoes.
  5. Cook for a minute and then add the tomato puree and the blended powder.
  6. Mix well, your dal is ready. Garnish with lime juice.
