Machchi by Batlivala
Patrani machchi is a Parsi steamed fish preparation. Fish coated in a coconut chutney mixture, wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed.
Ingredients
For The Fish
Seer Fish Fillets – 300gms
Banana Leaves – 1no
Turmeric Powder – ¼ tsp
Red chilli powder – ¼ tsp
Lemon Juice – 1 lemon
Salt – 1tsp
For Chutney
Coconut – ½ coconut
Coriander – 100gms
Mint – 30gms
Garlic – 25gms
Jeera – 1tbsp
Vinegar – 15ml
Lemon – 1no
Chillies – 5nos
Salt – 1tsp
Sugar – 1tbsp
Instructions
Preparations
Grate the coconut and make a chutney using all the chutney ingredients
Marinate the seer fish fillets with turmeric, red chilly powder, lemon juice and salt
Wash the banana leaves and heat it on the stove to make the leaves soft to avoid tearing when the fish is wrapped
Method
Place some chutney on the leaf and spread it. Now place the a piece of fish fillet on that and cover the fish with the green chutney
Wrap the banana leaves on four corners and tie it with the banana threads
Place a steamer on the stove and allow the temperature to reach 100 degree Celsius
Place the wrapped fish on the steamer plates and steam it for 5mins
Remove it and serve it hot with lemon wedges
