Ingredients

Toor Dal (Split) or moong dal
1/4
cup
tamarind paste
5
green chillies
adjustable

cloves
garlic
Salt
to taste
For tempering
1
tablespoon
vegetable oil
1
teaspoon
Mustard seeds

Curry Leaves
Coriander leaves (Dhania)
as required for garnishing
Instructions
To start the preparation of Garlic Dal, pressure cook the dal well and let it cool.
Dry roast the green chillies.
Blend the cooked dal, roasted green chillies, garlic, tamarind paste, salt in a mixer till the dal turns smooth.
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Let the curry leaves crackle. Add the blended dal and immediately switch off the flame.
Do not heat the dal. If the dal cooks then it will lose the raw garlic flavour. Garnish with coriander leaves.
Serve the Garlic Dal hot with lachha paratha or steamed rice or ragi mudde along with a dollop of ghee.
