Instructions
Heat the oil and fry the mustard seeds.
Add the turmeric powder and the hing and stir well.
After sautéing for half a minute add the peas and ¾ cup of water and simmer for 6 -7 minutes on a low flame.
Meanwhile, grind the coconut, coriander leaves, green chillies, ginger, cumin seeds and 3 tbsp water into a smooth paste.
After allowing the peas to cook for seven minutes, add the paste to the mixture.
Then season the mixture with the salt and sugar.
Add one cup of water to the mixture and sit well.
Cover the peas and allow them to cook until the peas soften.
Allow the mixture to simmer until most of the water escapes.
Finally, add the black masala and stir well.
Remove the usal from the flame and pour into a serving bowl.
Sprinkle some lime juice over the usal and serve.
Recipe Notes
