Ingredients
cup
½Rice
cup
½Moong Dal
1.5
tbsp
ghee
tsp
¼Turmeric Powder
haldi

tsp
Cumin seeds
jeera
salt to taste
Instructions
Rinse both the rice and dal together for a couple of times in water.
Heat the ghee or oil in a pressure cooker.
Drop in the cumin seeds first, let them crackle and then add the turmeric powder and stir.
Add the rice and moong dal and sauté for a minute.
Add 4 to 4.5 cups water.
Put in the salt.
Stir and then pressure-cook the khichdi for 5-6 whistles till both the rice and moong dal have reached a porridge-like consistency.
When the pressure settles down, open the lid and check the khichdi,
if its too thick, then add some water and stir well.
Let the cooker sit on a low flame to simmer the khichdi till you get the right consistency.
Serve moong dal khichdi with a plain bowl of yogurt or raita.
Recipe Notes
For a richer taste, add 1-2 tsp of ghee while serving as well.
