  1. Soak the horsegram in water for ten hours.
  2. Drain the water from the horsegram and pressure cook it in a small amount of water for three whistles.
  3. Remove the lid from the pressure cooker, turn the flame down to low and continue cooking the horsegram for twenty minutes.
  4. Cook the banana in a little water with salt.
  5. Add the banana to the horsegram and sprinkle in the chilly powder, jaggery and salt to taste.
  6. Stir well.
  7. Allow the mixture to boil for three to four minutes.
  8. Add the coconut, stir and allow the mixture to simmer for a few more minutes.
  9. Add the coconut oil and stir.
  10. Serve the puzhukku!
