  1. Put the papaya pieces in a little water and mix in the turmeric and salt.
  2. Pressure cook this for three whistles.
  3. Mix the coconut, garlic and cumin together and grind into a coarse paste.
  4. In the oil, fry the mustard seeds until they splutter.
  5. Add a few curry leaves and fry for half a minute.
  6. Add the onion and sauté for a minute.
  7. Stir in the chilly powder and the cooked papaya pieces.
  8. Stir in the ground paste and cook the thoran until all the water is absorbed.
  9. Serve!
