In a large bowl, combine the green chilies, ground cumin, chilli powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Crumble beef and sausage over mixture; mix well. Shape the mix into eight patties.
Cover and grill the patties over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side or until a meat thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear.
Top each patty with a cheese slice. Grill 1-2 minutes longer or until cheese begins to melt.
Serve on buns with the lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayonnaise or mustard.
