Sweet Somas Recipe
Sweet Somas, also known as Karjikai is made on auspicious days and festive occasions.
Instructions
  1. For The Filling
  2. Place a flat bottom pan on the stove.
  3. Turn the heat on.
  4. Roast the poppy seeds for 2 minutes and transfer to another bowl.
  5. Roast the dry coconut for 2 minutes and transfer to the same bowl.
  6. Pour ghee into the pan and roast the cashew nuts and raisins.
  7. Transfer to the bowl.
  8. Add the blitzed sugar and cardamom powder.
  9. Mix well.
  10. To make The Dough
  11. Take a mixing bowl.
  12. Add semolina and maida.
  13. Add warm milk.
  14. Add the ghee,
  15. Mix well and add the required water.
  16. The dough should be soft and firm to roll.
  17. Set aside for 30 minutes.
  18. Put Together
  19. Roll out the dough, Use a 2 and 1/2 inch round cutter and cut the portions
  20. Fill with the filling.
  21. Pinch the edges together.
  22. Seal well.
  23. You can use a pastry roller-cutter to design the edges.
  24. Frying
  25. Set a wok on the stove.
  26. Turn the heat on.
  27. Allow the oil to get smoking hot.
  28. Turn down the heat to medium.
  29. Deep fry the fritters until golden.
  30. Two at a time.
