uncooked rice

Tur dal

urad dal

chana dal

Asafetida

Instructions
Preparation of Batter
Soak tur dal, chana dal and urad dal together in water for 2 hours.
Coarsely grind rice in a mixer grinder.
Add curd, salt and asafetida to the ground rice and leave it for 2 hours.
Take out the soaked dal and grind them coarsely. Mix this with the curd-rice mixture.
Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and mix well.
Preparation of Thavala adai
Take a thick pan and heat it on low flame.
Heat 1 teaspoon sunflower oil.
Add 2 ladles of batter in the pan. Add 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil around the batter and close the pan with a plate.
Heat for 3 to 4 minutes.
Turn the half formed dosa to heat the other side of it. Add 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil around it again.
Close the pan with the plate and heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Cook throughout on a low flame.
Serve.
