Is there any easy way to boil potatoes
Solutions:
Boiling Potatoes in Water:
1Prepare the potatoes: Scrub the potatoes clean. If desired, cut the potatoes into large, evenly-sized cubes.
2. Transfer the potatoes to a saucepan and cover with cold water: Cover the potatoes with an inch or two of cold water. Starting the potatoes in cold water helps them cook more evenly.
3. Stir in a teaspoon of salt: Stir the salt into the water so that it dissolves.
4. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer: Set the pan over medium-high heat and bring the water to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to a bare simmer to cook the potatoes. Do not cover. (Covering changes the environment in the pot and can make the potatoes turn mushy.)
5. Check the potatoes after 5 minutes: Cubed potatoes will cook more quickly than whole potatoes; smaller potatoes will cook more quickly than larger potatoes. Begin checking the potatoes after around 5 minutes of boiling; most potatoes will be done in 10 to 20 minutes.
6. Potatoes are done when tender: The potatoes are done when they are tender all the way through. You can test this by poking the potato with a fork, paring knife, or skewer. If the utensil slides easily all the way to the center, the potatoes are done.
7. Drain the potatoes: Drain cubed potatoes into a strainer or lift whole potatoes out with a slotted spoon. If you’re recipe calls for cold potatoes, you can run the potatoes under cold water or dunk them in an ice water bath to cool them down more quickly.
Boiling Potatoes In a Cooker:
1. Cover the lid of the pressure cooker and Keep it on high flame
2. One of the question that we are asked most is about the number of whistles for boiling potatoes in pressure cooker. Here is the answer: After 2 whistles on high flame, switch OFF the stove. Do not open the lid of the cooker till it has pressure in it. Let all the steam go OFF on its own.
3. Once steam has vanished, open the lid of the cooker and check whether Potatoes are properly boiled or not.
4. To check: Poke the knife in one of the Potato, if it goes in easily, it means your job is done. Else, they might need some more time on stove. You can safely keep them again on high flame and wait for another whistle and then switch off the stove. Don’t forget to wait for steam to vanish again.
5. In normal conditions, you would not need more than 2 whistles as mentioned in the above step. But, in case the potatoes are really hard or the pressure cooker has old rubber or something else is not working, you may need this one more step of whistle.
6. Boiled Potatoes are ready to use. Peel their skin and they are now ready to be used in potato based recipes. Enjoy.
