Goa Dairy To Restart Import Of Milk After The Flush Season Ends
While Goa had stopped importing milk from their neighboring states currently, it looks as if it isn’t a sustainable situation. According to dairy authorities, Goa Dairy will have to restart the import of milk after the flush season ends in order to achieve their required quantity.
Although dairy authorities have already admitted that they have stopped the import of milk from surrounding states as Goa is currently producing the required quantity, it looks like this may just be a stop-gap measure and not a permanent one.
“We used to procure only buffalo milk from outside, but as we are getting it in Goa, the dairy has stopped that as well,” dairy managing director Raghunath Dhuri said.
The dairy supplies about 70,000 to 72,000 litres of milk in the local retail market, including 7,000 litres of buffalo milk. Goa State Milk Producers’ Union, popularly known as Goa Dairy, has 165 village-level milk collection societies as its members. Recently, sources have been claiming that although it is flush season milk production has fallen by about 3,000 liters a day.
