Here’s Why Virat Kohli May Never Endorse Pepsi
It is a major deal for celebrities and cricketers to land beverage endorsement and not just because they have the coolest campaigns but also because these tend to be more appreciated and in general have a wider consumer base as compared to other consumer goods. But owing to the growing awareness regarding the ill effects of aerated drinks and healthy experts voicing their opinions regarding the same, there has been an evident slump in cola campaigns as celebrities are invariably touted as “role models”.
One such celebrity who is easily one of the most sought after youth icons in India and the sports industry is Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli recently made it to the list of highest paid sports people across the world and of his total earnings a major chunk comes from brand endorsements. But despite that the cricketer may not endorse PepsiCo any time soon.
Kohli, who is known for staying at top of his health and fitness game, has decided to make certain amends in terms of his endorsement deal with PepsiCo. “When I started my fitness turnaround, it was more of a lifestyle thing initially. If something goes away from that, I would not want to be a part of that or be promoting that,” Kohli said during an interview to CNN-IBN.
Things that I’ve endorsed in the past, I won’t take names, but something that I feel that I don’t connect to anymore. If I myself won’t consume such things, I won’t urge others to consume it just because I’m getting money out of it,” he added.
Notably, Kohli has been associated with PepsiCo for over half a decade and his endorsement deal with the brand has been up for renewal for over a month now, having ended on 30th April. But if reports are to be believed, Kohli will pick another brand from the PepsiCo folio to promote instead of their popular soda. Here’s a look at Kohli’s last Pepsi ad.
