“I told him that I wanted to see his bones”, Director Omung Kumar On Randeep Hooda’s Gaunt Avatar In ‘Sarabjit’
Stalwart actor Randeep Hooda recently shared his look from ‘Sarabjit’, and it has spread all over social media like wild fire. The actor will be seen playing the role of Sarabjit Singh – an Indian farmer who strayed on to Pakistani land and was convicted of being a spy and eventually sentenced to death – in Omung Kumar’s latest biopic.
The ‘Highway ‘ star was required to look emaciated and malnourished for the challenging role and so he did.
A Bony Challenge
Speaking about the actor’s role in ‘Sarabjit’, the Mary Kom director told IANS, “When I had approached Randeep for this role, I was very clear in my mind that I need someone who is open about going through a rigorous weight loss, as the role demanded lot of different looks.”
“Randeep took that as a challenge and agreed upon giving 100 percent dedication not to prove that he can do it as an actor but to do justice to the character and the film,” added Kumar.
How Did He Do It?
The director revealed, “He cut down on his meals, filling up on coffee and water, even when we were shooting in Palghar and gorging on some great food.
“He shed around 18 kg of weight in 28 days, went through a strict diet and in fact in the last few days he was living completely on water”, Kumar adds.
Though this might be the quickest and most drastic transformation Bollywood has ever seen, the actor himself swears off the starvation diet. In the picture that he shared on social media, Hooda writes about how it’s a bad idea to try the steep weight loss method on yourself.

The actor gives credit to his sister, Anjali Hooda who is also a celebrated health consultant.
Randeep’s look has been achieved keeping in mind the torturous states with which Sarabjit Singh was faced. In his years in jail, Singh was kept in a 4 x 4 room and had rat bites all over him.
“The first time I met Randeep, I told him that I wanted to see his bones. He took up the challenge and shocked even me!” Omung claims.
Sarabjit is slated for a May 20 release. The movie will also see Rich Chaddha and Aishwarya Rai as Sarabjit’s wife and sister, respectively.
