Trace your Catch of the Day with ‘Boat to Plate’ App

on

Food-Tracking has become essential. It’s not entirely safe to blindly trust our food anymore. We need to know where it comes from, when it was supposed to reach us and whether it’s even safe to consume.

Latest in the food tracking technology is ‘Boat to Plate’ – a fish tracing app that allows you to scan a barcode and trace the source of your fish.

Where?

The app is being developed by researchers and fisherman in Portland, USA. The app aims to give New England seafood consumers total supply chain transparency at the supermarket counter.

How does it work?

When you scan the barcode provided on the fish information about where the fish was caught, the name of the boat that caught the fish and possibly a photo of the fisherman who caught it!

How is it being developed?

The New England project has been awarded a grant from the federal government and  will involve the successful completion of data collection of a number of key processes including ,catch, landing, auction, processing and delivery.

When?

The app will release approximately in two years time.
