5 Spice Blends Every Kitchen Should Have
Spices are the backbone of the food you prepare. Without spice your food would be bland and tasteless. Every cuisine has particular spices that are used in the preparation of delicious meals. Buying a different spice blend off the rack can be expensive. And believe it or not most of these spice blends include everyday spices that are individually available. More often than not these spices are already in your kitchen. All you have to do is take a day out and make some batches for your spice rack. Prepare these spice blends at home for quick and easy access to the flavour makers of your dish.
1. Italian Seasoning
What goes in – Garlic powder, onion powder, dried basil, oregano, pepper and parsley
Mix up equal quantities of each and store in a jar. The next time you make Italian simply whip the jar out, add salt to taste and you are good to go.
2. Chilli seasoning
What goes in – add your favourite chilli powder to garlic powder, onion powder, cumin powder, pepper and coriander powder.
It’s a good idea to add two or three kinds of chilli powders the blend gets a little more kick and is perfect for the people who love the heat of chilli with the colour of red pepper in their food. Don’t forget to add salt while cooking. Taste check, Colour check, check and all made at home.
3. Greek Seasoning
What goes in – Oregano, thyme, dried basil, dried parsley, onion powder, pepper, dried rosemary and garlic powder
Add in salt to taste when you’re cooking. Use this blend when you want to go Greek cuisine for a change from all the garam masala you would have been having all week long.
4. Ranch Dressing
What goes in – 6 tablespoons of Buttermilk, dried parsley flakes, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and mayonnaise
For this blend you’ll need to use an airtight container and keep it refrigerated. Ranch dressing is great with a salad whether green or pasta you choose.
5. Taco Seasoning
What goes in – garlic powder, onion powder, cumin powder, red pepper flakes and oregano
Make a delicious taco stuffing in minutes by keeping this spice blend handy. You don’t have to use it just to make tacos try this on your cheese toast for an evening snack. Don’t forget to add in the salt as per your taste.
