5 Wonders of the World in Food
After hearing about the Taj Mahal toast sculpture that was abandoned on a London street corner, I got to wondering; how many food artists out there are using our beloved wonders of the world as inspiration for their food art? Turns out there are a lot, and some of the sculptures that they’ve made are quite surreal. Prepare to be amazed.
1) Cheesy Mount Rushmore
Troy Landwehr was commissioned by Cheez-It snack crackers to create a replica of Mount Rushmore out of cheese. Using a 700 pound block of cheddar he carved out George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Sadly, the monument has now been cut up and served as cheese cubes.
2) Stonehenge Chips
Mushy peas and some store- bought chips were the only tools that Prudence Staite used to create an edible version of this ancient wonder. She and her team of artists have also recreated the London Eye, Big Ben and the Angel of the North using good old potato chips.
3) Pizza Coloseum
Prudence Staite has also ventured into Italy, in the form of her pizza coloseum, a replica of the colleseum made from dough that could have created 500 pizzas. Along with it she created a life size dough sculpture of Pope Benedict XVI.
4) Cheese Eiffel Tower
This life-like replica was created by Sarah Kauffman, better known as ‘The Cheese Lady.’
5) Jelly Taj Mahal
At the Architectural Jelly Banquet (yes, that exists), participants drew up plans and made structures out of jelly. This Taj Mahal could give the Taj Mahal Toast a run for its money.
