BigBasket Launches Service To Deliver Products From Speciality Stores

BigBasket, one of the leading grocery delivery platforms in the country, is set to launch delivery services from hyper-local speciality stores. The service will cater to customers who wish to purchase speciality products such as baked goods, flower, specialty meat products and pet supplies.

Speaking to Economic Times, Hari Menon, CEO of BigBasket, said, “No matter how much you shop online, 5% of your grocery is bought from speciality stores within the locality that you trust and love. For example, a cake from a favourite bakery. With this move, we plan to cover the whole grocery basket.” BigBasket will deliver products from speciality stores within the 6 km radius of the customer. The company is set to launch its services in Bengaluru by partnering with over 400 stores and is expected to expand the service in other cities in the coming months.

Last year, BigBasket raised nearly Rs. 800 crores in funding from US-based Sands Capital, International, International Finance Corporation and Bessemer Venture Partners. The company’s valuation before the funding was said to be at Rs. 2,100 crores. The Bengaluru-based company was founded by Hari Menon, V S Sudhakar, Vipul Parekh, VS Ramesh and Abhinay Choudhari and is present in 28 cities handling nearly 27,000 orders per day with an average bill of Rs. 1,500 per order.
