Domino’s In Europe Plans To Use Self Driving Robots To Deliver Its Pizza
Last year, Domino’s New Zealand used drones to deliver pizza as a test. Now, Domino’s in Europe are following suit with a plan to use self-driving delivery robots in Germany and the Netherlands.
Pizza Carrying Robots
The pizza carrying robots have been created by Starship Technologies, a London based company. They are six wheeled and can carry up to 20 pounds with a maximum speed of four miles per hour.
The robots will operate on sidewalks, drive up to customers’ houses and unlock after a customer enters a four digit code that they receive via text; so no need to worry about anyone stealing your pizza. “Dependent on size, we can carry up to eight pizzas on a delivery or a variety of combinations of pizzas, sides and cold drinks or dessert products,” Starship Technologies said in a statement.
“With our growth plans over the next five to 10 years, we simply won’t have enough delivery drivers if we do not look to add to our fleet through initiatives such as this,” Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Chief Executive Officer Don Meij said in a statement to the press.
Indeed, Domino’s stock has grown over 2000% since 2010.
