Dosart – Fusion Dosas At Their Delicious Best

on

You’d be hard put to find a Chennaiite who doesn’t love dosas. The humble dish is etched true and deep into our breakfast routines that we can never think of home food without thinking of them. However, dosas have now become a national favorite, thanks to what’s called as fusion dosas where traditional dosas join hands with flavors from different international cuisines to give a truly exquisite dish that looks and tastes amazing.

Dosart was started to bring these delicious fusion dosas to Chennai and make them the new favorite among Chennai’s crowds. What started as a kiosk at Ornes Road Kilpauk, expanded this month into a second outlet at R K Mutt Road, Mylapore, which we decided to check out. They have three more outlets in Chennai and a couple at Velur and Pondicherry coming soon. With the aroma of crisp dosas welcoming us at this cheerily-lit kiosk, we dove right in into their dosas.

Pizza Dosa, a crowd-favorite, is what we began with. Topped with green peas, sweet corn, paneer, baby corn and cheese, the pizza dosa was a delight on the plate. With oodles of cheese and toppings layered on to it, you’d have a hard time believing that’s a dosa in front of you. Spicy, cheesy and ever so yummy, the dish tasted fantastic. Move over, thin-crust pizza. Pizza dosa is here to replace you!

We decided to go Italian next and tried their Pasta Dosa, which is one of their authentic creations, and also one of their hotsellers. The dosa came loaded with a thick, creamy layer of fusilli and spiral pasta cooked with capsicum, schezwan sauce, fresh cream, pasta-pizza cream (an in-house creation that makes their dosas unique) and generous portions of cheese and mayonnaise. Needless to say, the pasta dosa was lip-smackingly delightful and became an instant favorite with us.

An Indian fusion we tried next was the Paneer Fantasy, a divinely desi concoction with a subtle continental twist. Made with spongy paneer, cabbage, onion, tomato, pasta-pizza cream, schezwan sauce, cheese and mayonnaise, the dosa is a definite indulgence for dosa-lovers and for anyone who loves a good paneer dish.

Another signature dish of theirs is the Tripod, tri-colour dosa that comes in neat rolls looking like brown cylinders overflowing with cheese. The tri-color look is created by the topping that includes sweet corn, green peas and beetroot which together create an appetizing splash of colors on your plate. Loaded with cheese and aloo masala, this dish is perfectly spiced and tastes great.

For dessert, (yes, you read that right) we had the Choconut Ecstasy, a decadent dosa dish topped with copious amounts of chocolate sauce, white and dark chocolate chips, cream, roasted nuts and cherries. The dosa resembles an extra-loaded chocolate crepe and tempts even the most waist-conscious eaters into gorging the delectable fusion dish. The perfect end to our meal, the Choconut Ecstast was indeed an ecstatic taste experience we’d never forget. This is definitely a must-try at Dosart.

Our experience at Dosart on the whole was a gastronomical delight, sailing through different flavours, tastes and cuisines while holding on to the roots, which in this case, is the versatile dosa.
