KFC India Announces Switch To Rice Bran Oil

on

Leading QSR brand KFC India today announced a switch to locally-sourced Rice Bran oil as the cooking medium for its restaurants, from the earlier used palm oil. KFC uses 3600 ton of cooking oil every month across its 300+ restaurants in India, and this investment by the brand towards a healthier alternative, marks another milestone in its efforts to improve the nutrition profile of its food. With this progressive move, KFC has become the first QSR brand in the country to attempt something of this nature and scale.

Speaking about the development, Rahul Shinde, Managing Director, KFC India said, “We keep the interest of our consumers at the heart of everything we do at KFC. As a brand, we continuously strive towards improving the nutrition profile of our high-quality food, without compromising on great taste. Looking at the benefits of rice bran oil, we had been testing it in select restaurants over the last few months and are now glad to make this shift across all our restaurants in the country.”

A relatively new entrant in the category of cooking oils, rice bran oil is widely known as a high source of vitamin E, and contains a natural antioxidant which helps reduce cholesterol. The rice bran oil will be 100% locally sourced by the brand from Indian oil manufacturers, including the leading Adani Wilmar.

This initiative was being tested in four cities Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and New Delhi earlier this year, and will now be rolled out to all KFC restaurants across the country during the first quarter of 2018.
