Liquor Fiasco Leaves Gujarat High And Dry(er)

on

The flag bearer of the Indian White Revolution, Amul, faced some serious issues on Sunday as liquor bottles worth almost Rs. 5.32 Lakhs was seized from the company Chairman and Congress MLA Ramsinh Parmar’s plot at Thasra town.

When asked, Parmar stated that it was all a ‘political conspiracy’ against him ahead of forthcoming elections to Amul Dairy. “This is a political conspiracy hatched against me to tarnish my image just before the dairy elections. I am against addiction of liquor and I never consume it. Why will I need such a huge stock (of liquor),” Parmar asked.

For people wondering what the entire hullabaloo is about, Gujarat has a sumptuary law in force since its formation in 1960 that forbids the manufacture, storage, sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages. In simpler terms, Gujarat is a dry state.
