Thanks to the widespread reach of the internet, the ability to ‘go viral’ is very real! Take these two Houston students who ‘pranked’ McDonald’s by putting up a fake advertisement that no one realised wasn’t real, even though it hung on the wall for a grand total of 51 days.

However, it turns out that Jevh Maravilla and Christian Toledo did have a bit of an ulterior motive. The two students put up the fake ad on a blank wall at their nearby Mickey D’s to highlight the lack of Asian-American representation in fast food marketing (the struggle for representation is real).
After Jevh’s tweet went viral, the two young men ended up on Ellen, where they disclosed that the McDonald’s outlet had removed the poster (because of rennovation) but planned to auction it off and donate the proceeds to the Ronald McDonald House Houston charity.

Here’s where it gets wild though, Ellen DeGeneres (being the bringer of great tidings of joy that she is) revealed that McDonald’s is going to feature the two students in an upcoming campaign, complete with a $25,000 cheque for each of them (that should pay off a few textbooks).
It just goes to show – the lack of representation is real ya’ll! Keep on calling out big conglomerates on it, and you may walk away with a big fat cheque!
