on

In light of the environmental concerns that the widespread use of plastic brings, Nestle India has launched a returns programme for Maggi Noodles. Consumers can return 10 empty packets of Maggi for 1 fresh packet at two retail shops in Uttarakhand currently, but the programme could spread to other states shortly!

For the inital project in Dehradun and Mussoorie, Nestlé is working with about 250 retailers. According to a Nestle India spokesperson, he move is among the company’s various plastic waste management initiatives. Earlier, Maggi, along with PepsiCo’s Lay’s chips and Parle’s Frooti were named in May among the top brands causing plastic pollution after customers were found not disposing of empty packs in a hill stations in Uttarakhand.

The findings were from a joint study by Gati Foundation and Uttarakhand Environment Protection & Pollution Control Board. “We are hopeful that this will bring about a behaviour change in consumers and help create awareness for responsibly disposing plastic waste and prevent littering,” the Nestlé spokesperson said.

So, if you’re living in Uttarakhand and enjoy your fair share of Maggi, you could get yourself a free packet of Maggi, and save the environment too!
