The third type is known as Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), which develops in pregnant women usually in their second or third trimester.
One of the important things is to maintain a healthy diet. In prediabetes, the sugar from foods builds up in your bloodstream because the insulin can’t easily move into the cells. Also, a diet filled with carbohydrates that digest quickly can lead to blood sugar spikes. In the case of people with prediabetes, your body struggles to lower blood sugar levels after meals, which is not good at all. When you eat more calories than your body needs, it gets stored as fat, which causes weight gain.
Foods that are high on the glycemic index (GI) will raise blood sugar faster, like processed, cooked or canned food. Foods with fibre are low on the glycemic index and are less likely to cause spikes. Refined carbohydrates rank high on the GI, like bread, white rice and russet potatoes as well as soda and juice, should be limited if you have prediabetes. Food that is low on the GI are obviously best for blood sugar. Add foods like steel-cut oats, beans, sweet potatoes, corn, whole wheat pasta and non-starchy vegetables into your diet to keep your blood sugar levels at a steady point.

- 1/2 cup of diced tomatoes

- 1/2 of a ripe avocado seeded and chopped

- In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, water, basil, salt and pepper
- In another bowl, mix together the tomatoes, cucumber and avocado
- On a non-stick pan, spray cooking spray or add a dash of butter or oil and then pour the egg mixture into the pan
- Using your spatula, stir the eggs till there’s a combination of cooked and liquid egg and then stop till the egg is set
- Scoop up some of the vegetable filling and set it on one side of the omelette, then carefully fold over the other side and leave for a few minutes
- Then remove the omelette from the pan and serve.
