Thieves Steal $150,000 Worth of Maple Syrup in Montreal

on

And this isn’t even the first time.

Canada is known for their famous maple syrup and everybody also knows that it costs a lot of money and is worth so much more than we really believe. But it’s also not the first time this has happened in Canada. Known to the Canadians as the “Great Maple Syrup Heist of 2011-2012” (we’re not sure that it’s officially called that, but it sounds good), thieves made away with $18 million worth of maple syrup.

And now, 20,000 liters of the syrup has been stolen from a storage facility near Montreal’s Trudeau airport. According to vice-president at Mexuscan Cargo, Alfredo Monaco, the thieves broke into the warehouse, stole a shipping container with 20 pallets of Kirkland brand one-liter bottles of syrup. Apparently this syrup was in the process of being shipped to Japan.

Now, the company is offering a $10,000 reward for any information leading to the recovery of the stolen syrup. Monaco also believes that it will be difficult for the thieves to unload the syrup since Kirkland is Costco’s house brand, which means that the brand is popular and well known everywhere that they could possibly sell it.
