on

Making rice is actually one of the easiest things to do, but there are some who still find it quite challenging or don’t know how to do it. And to ease your minds, we’ve got a really easy and fun way to make rice! All you need is rice, water, a microwave safe dish and a microwave, it’s really that simple. And don’t worry, you don’t have to work yourself into a state about doing this either. You don’t have to sit by the microwave waiting for the whistle to blow, just follow these easy steps and you’ll have great rice ready to eat right away.

And it doesn’t matter if you’re making plain rice or flavoured rice, there’s a trick for everything!

Rinse the rice

First things first, a lot of rice needs to be washed and rinsed properly to remove the starch. Also rinsing the rice makes it softer and it’s important to have soft rice before you cook it. Drain and repeat till the water is more or less clear and then drain that water.

Add water & rice into a bowl

Use a microwave safe container and add the washed rice into that and top it off with water. Remember the balance of rice to water – for every 1 cup of rice, you’ll need 2 cups of water. It also depends on how dry or soft you want your rice as well, but the usual balance should work out fine.

Flavour the rice

You can add salt or oil or any other flavourings you wish and mix the rice and water properly. For each cup of rice, add a teaspoon of oil or salt to add some flavour to your food.

Close the dish

Cover the rice with a lid that fits perfectly and then place the dish in the microwave. You can set it at your own amount depending on how much rice is in the bowl, but keep in mind that if there is more rice in the bowl, you’ll need to keep it for longer. For example, one cup of rice needs at least 15 minutes and two cups of rice will need 35 minutes.

Let it sit for a bit

Once the timer goes off, let the rice stay in the microwave so that it completes the cooking process with the remaining steam.

Ready to serve!

Take the dish out of the microwave carefully and then open it up and either transfer it into another bowl or use a fork to gently fluff it in the current dish itself.
