Avoid These 7 Dangerous Foods for Better Health
In 2000, the World Health Organization adopted a resolution recognizing food safety as an essential public health function. This is because millions of people around the world die as a result of eating unsafe and unhealthy food.
Given this concern, the question now is this: what are the foods you should avoid for better health?
Here are seven of the many foods considered as dangerous, especially when taken too much:
- Fast Food
It is cheap, convenient, and an instant hunger killer. Unfortunately, fast food is among the worst foods you could feed your body. Fast food is the ultimate disaster because it contains trans-fat, MSG, salt, artificial sweeteners, and sugar among many others to make it taste good. Not to mention, it contributes to obesity as well.
The next time you get tempted to enter the drive thru area, remember this: fast foods are bad for your health.
- Eggs
There is an ongoing debate on whether eggs are good for you or not. The truth is eggs, particularly the yolk contain nutrients to keep your body functioning properly. Unfortunately, not everyone can have this. If you have diabetes or a rare genetic disorder, then it is best to skip this breakfast favorite.
- Ketchup
Fries and burger will never be complete without ketchup. It turns out that the one you buy in stores are made of water, overcooked tomatoes, and large amounts of sugar. You might find genetically-engineered corn syrup and flavor boosting chemicals that come under the name “natural flavorings.” In fact, one tablespoon could already give your body four grams of sugar – and it’s not good.
- Brazil Nuts
Brazil nuts are among the great sources of protein, essential fatty acids, fiber, and selenium. It also helps lower your blood pressure and serum cholesterol. Here’s the thing: too much of this kind of nuts is bad for your health. Surprisingly, it may lead to dermatitis, hair loss, brittleness or loss of nails, and even neurological abnormalities. The shelled version has higher selenium levels too – and it’s not good if you eat too much.
- Margarine and Fake Butter
Here’s something you should know about margarine: contrary to what you see on the television, it is unhealthier than butter. This is because margarine contains partially hydrogenated fatty acids, which could damage your arteries and blood vessels. At the same time, eating margarine lowers good cholesterol while raising triglycerides and lipoproteins, thereby leading to cardiovascular damage. Eating too much margarine could increase your risk of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes.
- Soda
No, this is not the kind of soda that helps in teeth whitening. Soda, which includes the diet version, is among the worst foods for your health. Soft drinks are all about sugar and food coloring, which is why it is among the primary reasons for the increasing obesity rate even in children. Don’t be fooled by “diet” and “zero calories” on the label. There’s still sugar in there and drinking diet soda won’t save your health.
- Poultry
Who doesn’t love chicken? Your annual party will never be complete without your mom’s famous fried chicken on the table. Unfortunately, chicken and poultry in general are easily prone to contamination, which makes them among the dangerous foods for your health. To avoid cross contamination, keep your poultry goods in sealed containers and use separate cutting boards.
There will always be good food and bad food. Before these foods enter your body, read as much as you can and keep yourself informed. After all, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
