A Guide To An Acne-Free Diet
We all have struggled through an acne filled puberty, both boys and girls, but many of us don’t know that controlling our diet or eating healthy foods has a huge impact on how our skin develops and deals with acne. A low sugar, well-balanced diet is ideal for reducing the inflammation of our skin and even regulating hormones which controls oil secretion. Thus, reducing acne and pimples. Here are some tips to achieve that and keep your acne at bay:
-
Drink more water
We cannot emphasize enough how important water is for our skin and overall health. It is literally the elixir of life in the true sense. Staying hydrated is the key to clear skin – download an app on your smartphone that reminds you to drink water every now and then!
-
Reduce sugar intake
Sugar is in almost everything we eat hence making it difficult to avoid. Therefore, the best way to reduce it to not eat anything ‘extra’ sweet that will add on to your sugar intake apart from what you are already consuming. For instance, your fruit has 2-4 servings of fructose so avoid a Rasgulla after a meal is all we are saying!
-
Avoid processed foods
These contain more sugars, salts, fats and everything else that we don’t need in excess. Prefer cooking at home at all costs!
-
Prefer Greek Yogurt over Dairy
Dairy consumption has been linked to increased acne. Although dairy is high in nutrients our bodies love – like calcium and protein – food from animals may not be the ideal source of protein.
-
Antioxidant-rich berries
The more you eat these the better – especially if you struggle with acne. They are so delicious that you don’t have to worry about the taste. Keep munching on them every once in a while.
