Amazon Leases Warehouse Near London; Could Amazon Fresh be Arriving in The UK?
Online retail giant, Amazon has just signed a ten year lease on a warehouse in Surrey that was previously managed by Tesco. This move indicates that the company, which is already the go to online source for books, clothes and appliances is looking to launch Amazon Fresh in the UK.
Amazon Fresh, which was launched in the US in 2007 allows customers to order perishable groceries such as fruits and vegetables online and have them delivered in under a day. Customers using this service must be members of Amazon prime, which costs $300 per year.
It is speculated that Amazon Fresh will go live in the UK next month, and that it is already looking at leasing two additional warehouses in Leicestershire and Staffordshire. The warehouse in Surrey is ideal for catering to London customers.
