Barnum’s Animal Crackers Changes Their Packaging & Of Course PETA Was Involved
Chances are, you’ve watched the Greatest Showman and have been drawn in by Barnum and his loveable gang of misfits. You may also have eaten Barnum’s Animal Crackers at some point in your childhood. You might have noticed that the animals were placed in cages when you were younger, however, that is no longer the case, thanks to a little help from PETA.
PETA Lobbies To Remove Cages
After PETA fought to have the bars and the circus trailers removed, Barnum’s Animal Crackers will now show the animals running free, very Hakuna Matata. In 2016 PETA wrote to Mondelez International asking them to have the box changed.
The letter read, “Given the egregious cruelty inherent in circuses that use animals and the public’s swelling opposition to the exploitation of animals used for entertainment, we urge Nabisco to update its packaging in order to show animals who are free to roam in their natural habitats.”
PETA even provided a mockup of what they thought would be a suitable representation. Who says that social justice warriors don’t get things done?
