You Cup Of Coffee May Be Protecting You From Developing Dementia
Are you of the tribe of people that needs a good douse of coffee before you can begin to function each day? Then, you may be better protected from developing dementia according to a recently study.
The Effect Of An Enzyme
According to the researchers who conducted the study – who were from Indiana University – an enzyme called NMNAT2 can protect the brain against dementia. As a party of the study, they identified 24 compounds which boosts the enzyme’s presence in the brain.
One of these compounds was caffeine, a stimulant found in coffee, tea, soft drinks, chocolate and kola nuts. Other compounds found to increase the presence of tNMNAT2 were rolipram, ziprasidone and cantharidin.
In the past, caffeine has been found to improve memory in tests on mice.
