FIR Filed Against Head Honchos At Snapdeal For Allegedly Selling Maggi While It Was Still Banned

on

Late last year, Snapdeal was at the receiving end of immense gratitude from Maggi lovers all over the country when they were the first platform to stock the noodles after its five month ban. However, one unhappy lawyer in Jaipur lodged a case against Snapdeal on Sunday, claiming that it sold the noodles while the ban was still imposed in five states. Following this complaint, the police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Kunal Bahl, the Snapdeal CEO and Rohit Bansal, its founder.

The Flash Sale

As a unique business initiative, Snapdeal launched a flash sale of the beloved noodles following a lift on the ban by the Bombay High Court.

The flash sale, launched on November 12th resulted in Snapdeal selling 60,000 Maggi Welcome Kits which included 12 packs of Maggi, a 2016 Maggi calendar and Maggi post cards within five minutes.

The FIR

However, according to Lalit Sharma, the Jaipur based lawyer who has filed the FIR against Snapdeal the sale was conducted despite the ban having not been lifted in five states.

The FIR has been filed claiming violations against the Indian Penal Code under section 420 (cheating), 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 273 (sale of noxious food and drink).

Snapdeal is yet to comment on the matter. However, of late, Snapdeal has shown more and more interest in getting into the food sector – while it already sells kitchen essentials like oils, beverages and packaged goods, it recently partnered with Pizza Hut to allow users to pre order a new pizza it is releasing.
