The Hunger Games Lamb Stew With Dried Plums Recipe

on

As a part of our ongoing series of recipes inspired by The Hunger Games, today we’re going to be sharing a recipe for Lamb Stew with Dried Plums.

Katniss mentions this dish to Cesar when he asks her what she was most impressed with in the Capitol. She replies that it is the lamb stew with dried plums.

We’ve used a recipe from The Unofficial Hunger Games Cookbook to recreate this stew; serve it atop wild rice with a side of mixed greens.

Ingredients:

5 pounds lamb fillet, cut into small pieces
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 cup all purpose flour
2 tbsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 large onion, chopped
1/2 cup water
4 cups beef stock
2 tsp white sugar
3 tsp brown sugar
3 cups carrots, diced
1 cup zucchini, diced
1 1/2 cups celery, diced
2 onions, diced
3 potatoes, cubed
5 cups dried plums
3 tsp rosemary, chopped
2 tsp basil, chopped
1 tsp parsley, chopped
2 bay leaves

Recipe:

Sift the salt, pepper and flour together.
Toss the lamb in the flour and then brown the meat in hot oil.
Pour out 3/4 of the lamb fat, reserving a quarter.
In the remaining fat, sauté the chopped onion and garlic.
Pour in half a cup of water and stir well until the liquid reduced a little.
Boil the lamb in the mixture.
Add the beef stock and sugar and stir until the sugar is dissolved.
Simmer this mixture for an hour.
Add the vegetables, plums, herbs and ginger ale and simmer for 45 minutes.
Take off the stove, serve and enjoy.
