IRCTC Is Going To Be Offering Malwani Cuisine On Your Train Journeys Very Soon

Train passengers passing through Sindhudurg will soon be able to enjoy delicious Malwani cuisine during their journey and the added bonus is that this food can be bought with cashless payments, the Economic Times reports.

IRCTC’s catering wing has tied up with NABARD on this project, where the food will be cooked by 30 women from various self help groups in the country. An elaborate kitchen has already been set up in Sawantwadi where these women will be trained to cook large volumes as well as being trained to take digital orders. This project will be launched by railway minister Suresh Prabhu in Sindhudurg today.

Rajashree Mankame, district development manager, said, “A modernised catering unit has been set up to supply Malwani delicacies like surmai, chicken and veg thalis, dry chicken, bhakri, kothimbir and alu wadi, puran poli with desi ghee, rice noodles and sweet coconut milk, rice modak, solkadi and various chutneys.”

NABARD has also sanctioned a grant of Rs. 6.23 lakh to Lupin Human Welfare and Research Foundation to supply local cuisine on trains. The money from NABARD goes towards buying equipment and furniture of the central kitchen, including a deep freezer, microwave oven, food processor and packing and sealing machines along with computers, printers and delivery vehicles.

Konkan, one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country, is known for its Malwani delicacies. The Food on Track e-catering service will soon go live on Konkan Railway.
