Chennai
Let’s hear it for the Village Thiruvizha!
We were in for a treat, last Sunday, as we took a little drive to VGP Universal Kingdom. Colourful lights, cheers, pottery sheds, tug of war sessions, weaving stations- Oh and make way for the Bullock Cart! Namma Ooru touch, I must say.
Let’s get down to the heavenly smell that was wafting through the air as we walked in. Molagga, Vazhakai Bajji and Fresh Fish fried to perfection, the yummy-licious Kadala mix; were ticking off the taste buds. We made a bee-line to the food stall and ordered ourselves a gigantic platter of all three. Clockwork.-Sizzle, fry, toss and serve. Minutes later we were served a steaming hot plate of Bajjis and Fish with crunchy onions on the side. Bajji; crisp on the outside with juicy molagga inside and the fish; will have you thanking the beach nearby.
Seconds later, I should say, we sighed. And Chukku Coffee appeared. I’m not a ginger fan. But this, this cup of ginger and coffee, was so ‘zingy’- for lack of another word. The coffee seemed to blend playfully with the ginger and have you mouthing ‘Ooru’.
We spent a lovely evening watching dance performances, playing games and making our take-home pots, with many more Bajji intervals.
