More Varieties Of Maggi To Be Launched By Nestle India

on

In the midst of all the controversy surrounding Maggi, Nestle is planning to launch three new varieties of Maggi noodles within the next 3-4 months. This announcement comes within a month of the relaunch of Maggi after a ban which lasted more than 3 months due to the high levels of lead content present in the noodles.

Speaking from the CII national FMCG summit 2015, Nestle India CMD Suresh Narayanan said, “We will launch other variants of Maggi noodles such as oats noodles, aata noodles and cup noodles in three to four months.” Production of Maggi noodles has already restarted in plants located at Nanjangud (Karnataka), Bicholim (Goa), Moga (Punjab) and Pantnagar (Uttarakhand) and further re-openings in the pipeline.

Although the ban on the sale of Maggi noodles was lifted, further testing of the noodles was ordered by the Supreme Court last week by an accredited lab located in Mysore. The previous testing was done in a laboratory based in Chennai. Regarding the order, Mr. Narayanan said, “The matter is subjudice, samples are being sent to CFTRI Mysore, so all I would say is that it is a question of trust and credibility of Nestle organisation. We have performed all due diligence before coming back into the market.”

After the re-launch, Maggi has sold between 50-60 million packs, as compared to 300-400 million units it used to sell before the controversy. Nestle has also been trying to increase their distributor network from the present 1000 to 1500 it used to have before the ban.
