Now Burger King Is Going The Antibiotic-Free Chicken Way

on

Some time after McDonald’s announced that it would be making preservative free chicken nuggets, Burger King has also pledged to curb the use of antibiotics in the chicken it serves.  This move was announced when Restaurant Brands International – the parent company of Burger King – stated that it will stop the use of certain antibiotics in chicken.

The Statement

In the statement, Restaurants Brands International said it will  “eliminate the use of antibiotics deemed by the World Health Organization as ‘critically important’ to human medicine from our chicken supply chain in the United States in 2017 and in Canada in 2018.”

Researchers and advocates have suggested that antibiotics in chicken and other food products may create viruses that are resistant to these antibiotics, rendering them untreatable.

As well as Burger King, Restaurant Brands International owns Tim Horton’s, a doughnut brand.
