The Princess Diaries Sidecar Cocktail Recipe

on

If you’re familiar with The Princess Diaries series (the books, not the movies), you’ll be very aware that Mia’s grandmother AKA grandmere has some bizarre quirks. She has tattooed on eyeliner, she’s never seen without her pet dog, Rommel and she demands Sidecars everywhere she goes.

The Sidecar

No, she doesn’t ask for the attachment to a motor vehicle; a Queen would never be seen in one of those. She calls for the Sidecar cocktail, a classic cocktail made with cognac, orange liqueur and lemon juice.

The Sidecar has two different preparations; while in France it is prepared with equal parts of cognac, Cointreau and lemon juice, in England it is prepared with two parts of cognac and one of Cointreau and lemon juice.

We imagine that Clarisse, with her obsession for all things French would prefer the French preparation. She also demands that her Sidecar be served in a stemmed cocktail glass.

When To Have It

It’s always a good time for cocktails, but The Sidecar would be especially perfect when you’re having a rom com movie marathon with the girls – it should include the Princess Diaries of course!

Alternatively, pair a French dinner or lunch with The Sidecar.
