Copycat Subway Marinara Sauce Recipe
We’ve been sharing copycat recipes for Subway’s delicious sauces over the last few weeks; today, we turn our attention to its Italian marinara sauce.
The marinara sauce is typically served on the meatball sandwich in order to capture Italian flavours. Marinara sauce is an Italian sauce made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs and onions.
Whip up this sauce at home and use it to top some meatballs on bread.

Ingredients
- olive oil spray
- 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp onions finely chopped
- 2 tsp garlic minced
- 1 1/3 cups crushed tomatoes from a can
- 1/4 cup Water
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Instructions
- Mist a non-stick skillet with the oil.
- Sauté the onion and garlic for three minutes until the onion softens.
- Reduce the heat to low and stir in the tomatoes, water, sugar, oregano and oil.
- Stir well and allow mixture to cook until the ingredients are well incorporated.
- Take off the stove and allow to cool.
- Store in a fridge.
