Mexican Refried Beans Recipe
Refried beans is a popular Mexican staple dish made with cooked and mashed beans. The dish also sees a number of variations in many Spanish and Latin American kitchens. Often consumed as a dip with Tex-Mex food like chips and burritos, the preparation is made after being boiled and then mashed into a paste, the beans are sometimes then fried or baked, though usually neither. No, it is not actually refried in any way.
In northern Mexico and in American Tex-Mex cuisine, refried beans are usually prepared with pinto beans, but many other varieties of bean are used in other parts of Mexico, such as black, Peruano, or red (kidney) beans. The following recipe uses the traditional Mexican method, which is made with pinto beans. Follow the recipe and whip up some fiery refried beans at home!
