Instructions
  1. Heat a pan and dry roast the channa dal, dried red chilies and asafetida till the dal turns golden brown.
  2. Cool completely and powder in a grinder without using water.
  3. Roast sesame seeds separately until they start popping. Cool and powder separately.
  4. Heat the same oil in the pan and crackle the mustard seeds.
  5. Add curry leaves and chopped green chilies. Fry for a minute.
  6. Next add finely chopped orange peel and fry for a few minutes.
  7. Now add the tamarind paste.
  8. Add turmeric powder, salt and jaggery. Let this boil for 10 minutes on medium flame.
  9. When the mixture becomes a little thicker in consistency, add the roasted and powdered spices and mix well. Adjust seasoning and remove from heat.
  10. Finally add the powdered sesame.
  11. Serve.
