Ingredients
- 1 medium Vazhaithandu/Banana Stem
- 1 tsp Buttermilk
- 4 tbsp Tur dal
- ½ cup Fresh grated coconut
- 1 green chili
- ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
- Salt to taste

- 2 tsp Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 5-6 Curry Leaves

Instructions
- Wash and soak the tur dal in water for 20 minutes.
- Finely chop the banana stem and put it in a bowl of water with a few drops of buttermilk added to it.
- Heat a wok and add the chopped banana stem and the soaked dal
- Add turmeric powder and ¼ cup of water, cover and cook on medium flame, till the dal and vegetable are done. The dal should not turn mushy.
- Add salt to taste, cook uncovered for a few minutes or till all the moisture is absorbed.
- Grind the coconut and green chilly to a coarse mix, without adding water.
- Add this to the cooked vegetable and mix well.
- Heat a frying pan with oil and crackle the mustard seeds.
- Once they splutter, add urad dal. Fry till the dal turns golden brown and then add the curry leaves.
- Pour this tempering over the cooked vegetable and mix well.
