This Hungry Raccoon Is Knocking For Food And Wants To Be Fed

A raccoon just became the new social media sensation. But she’s not just any ordinary raccoon, she’s a hungry one. Known as “Rocksy”, this raccoon has been a daily visitor of a Florida woman’s home. She politely comes asking for food every day, but how does she do it? Simple, by knocking on her glass door. Susie Chinn, the woman whom the raccoon has been visiting, has found this most amusing and has captured the scene on video and shared it on YouTube for her friends to see, and the video now has around two million views! 

Susie Chinn says it “started happening nine months ago.” Chinn would leave food outside for her cats only to find a raccoon coming by to enjoy the meal. When Chinn heard a knocking sound on the door one day, she saw the raccoon holding a rock and using it to knock on her door. After the raccoons frequent visits, Chinn named her “Rocksy”. Chinn said, “She’ll do it for hours. She’ll sit there for 2 or 3 hours, and I don’t give her a dang thing, she’ll just sit there.” Chinn says that the incessant knocking is too much to take at times, and by that we assume Rocksy is quite persistent. She said, “I’ll take her rock and then I’ll throw it into the garden and within a couple of minutes she’ll get another one and then she’ll come back and just keep doing it.” Although the noise of the continuous knocking may seem like a disturbance, Chinn now sees Rocksy as a friend. Chinn said, “The noise sometimes drives me crazy but I look forward to her every day and actually there’s been a couple of times where she’s been late getting here and I worry about her.” With this video that’s now gone viral, Chinn hopes that it can send out a message to the people letting them know that they “should not kill or mistreat wild animals.” She said, “I’m hoping that people will learn from this and just respect animals and love them because we all have a reason to be here.”

On that note, we think the video is cute and amusing, but we’d like to emphasize that one mustn’t feed a wild raccoon, because if they do, the animal can tend to become comfortable around humans and spread disease.
