Ingredients
- 250 grams brinjal finely chopped
- 3 tsp thur dal
- 1 small tamarind
- 2 tsp Sambar powder
- 1 tsp Rice flour
- salt to taste

- 1 tsp Oil
- 1 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1 tsp chana dal
- 1 tsp split urad dal
- 1 tsp Grated coconut
- 1/4 tsp Hing

Instructions
- Soak the ball of tamarind in warm water.
- Discard the pulp and reserve the juice.
- In a pressure cooker, cook the thur dal.
- Heat the oil in a pan and fry the mustard seeds.
- Add the dals and fry until they turn red.
- Add the coconut and hing and fry until the coconut turns red.
- Keep this mixture aside.
- Cook the chopped brinjal in a little water.
- Once the brinjal softens slightly, add the tamarind extract, salt, turmeric and sambar powder.
- Stir well.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and then stir in the thur dal.
- Dilute the rice flour in a little water and then pour it into the brinjal.
- Allow the mixture to boil for a minute or two, and then mix in the coconut and dal seasoning.
- Remove the kottu from the flame and serve!
