Head To Mahjong Room To Experience A Taste Of China For The Indian Palate

on

The garden city of Bangalore is home to a plethora of amazing eateries. When we discovered that WelcomHotel had thrown open the doors of their Chinese restaurant, Mahjong Room, we couldn’t wait to see what they had in store for us!

We started with an absolutely delicious, colour-changing Butterfly Pea Flower tea, to cleanse the palate. Next, the appetizers started flowing. We loved the sweetness and the texture of the Crunchy Corn Kernels. Lotus Stem has gained popularity in Bangalore, and the Crispy Lotus Stem with Sesame didn’t disappoint!

The Golden Fried Prawns had a bit of a tempura vibe, and were absolutely sweet and succulent! We paired our appetizers with the Sakura Cosmos a vodka-based, Asian take on the Cosmopolitan, which was the perfect accompaniment to our starters.

Next, we moved on to the dim sum! While the Prawn Hargao is always a fantastic option, our favorite dim sum of the lot was the vegetarian option, the Vegetable Crystal Dumplings, we loved the texture that the water chestnut added.

For the mains we tried the Double Fried Beans with Minced Mushrooms and Pickled Chilies along with the Cantonese Lamb, Hot And Spicy Hunan Prawns, and Gong Bao Chicken Dry Chili which we paired with a fragrant Jasmine rice and some Chili Garlic Noodles. The Cantonese Lamb was tender and exquisite and the Gong Bao Chicken was perfectly cooked and added a lovely hit of spice to the mix.

No meal is complete without dessert, and we got two amazing dishes to dig into. The deconstructed Passion Coconut Lime Shortcake had a lovely texture created by the macaroons and nuts which paired beautifully with the tender coconut and passion fruit ice cream.

The Hot Chocolate Cookie Over Fudge was the perfect take on s’mores with its dark chocolate ice cream, roasted marshmallows and Dark Fantasy biscuits – the most decadent way to end a meal. We loved how the flavors of classic Cantonese, Sichuan, and Hunan cuisines had been adapted for the Indian palate and we’d definitely come back to Mahjong Room to satisfy those Chinese cravings!
